Pupil Voice

School Council

What is the School Council?

At Oak Hill First School our School Council representatives are democratically elected by their classes to represent their peers’ views and opinions.

As a member of the School Council the children will act as a link between the Class, Class Teacher and the Senior Leadership Team.

This academic year the primary focus of the School Council is raising awareness of charities. The School Councillors play a key role in reflecting pupil voice to the Senior Leadership Team and help shape future events in school.

The School Councillors will attend regular meetings where they can put  the views and opinions of their peers forward and discuss new initiatives.

Eco-Committee

The Eco Warriors work together to support Oak Hill in looking after our environment, being eco-friendly and ensuring we are energy efficient.

The Eco-Warriors are children who have a love for the environment and have been chosen by their class to help the staff and children at Oak Hill to become more environmentally friendly.

We meet regularly to discuss ideas, plan activities and events and bring together ideas and concerns from the rest of the school. As representatives of our classes, it is up to us to promote eco-friendly habits, provide support and get feedback from our peers to continually work towards a brighter future for all.

Leading by example, we are consistently supporting all members of our school to turn off unnecessary lights, to reduce plastic waste, to recycle and reuse and to choose healthier ways to travel to school. We're also planning and leading events in school that take place across the country, working together to make a difference.

Online Safety Ambassadors

Our Online Safety Ambassadors help raise the profile of online safety around our school.

They help develop rules and policies, share online safety resources with their classes and families and promote safe use of technology.

These children are elected by their classes to attend meeting and decide on how to protect everyone in school whilst using digital technology.

Wellbeing Ambassadors

The Well-Being Ambassadors work together to support the mental health and wellbeing of all children to make Oak Hill a better place for everyone.

At Oak Hill, every class in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 chooses 2 representatives. Voting for Ambassadors takes place at the beginning of the school year.

The children chosen then meet regularly to discuss and plan ways to support their peers with their mental health and well-being.

They also gain information from regular pupil surveys and this information is collected and then looked at by the  Well-Being Ambassadors before deciding upon the next action(s) to be taken. Well-Being Ambassadors will then provide feedback in a number of ways:

  • In class discussions and assemblies
  • Using the Well-Being Ambassadors noticeboard.

The Well-Being Ambassadors may also meet with  Miss Kelly and/or a school governor to discuss their plans for the year ahead.
